Triple murder killer gets 70 years in jail in Punjab
Chandigarh: A court in Morinda, Punjab, has sentenced Alam to 70 years in jail for the murder of a triple murder. Accused killed his wife, sister-in-law’s nephew with an axe. Alam (28), a resident of Ward No. 1, Sugar Mill Road, Morinda, was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife, sister-in-law and wife’s nephew and injuring another nephew.
The accused will have to spend a total of 70 years in jail. On the night of June 3, 2020, Alam killed his wife Kajal, sister-in-law Jaspreet Kaur and her son Sahil with an axe while they were sleeping and also attempted to kill his sister-in-law’s second son Bobby, who was living in his wife’s ancestral house in Morinda.
District and Sessions Judge, Rupnagar, convicted Alam of murder under Section 302 and attempt to murder under Section 307 of the IPC.
The court invoked Section 57 of the IPC which provides for a punishment of 20 years of life imprisonment. By virtue of this section, Alam will remain in jail for up to 60 years, i.e. 20 years each under Section 302 of the IPC (for three offences), and another 10 years for the offence under Section 307.
