Two brothers among five dead due to drugs in Punjab village, protests erupt
Chandigarh: Amid rising concerns over drug abuse in Punjab, villagers staged a sit-in protest, demanding strict action against drug peddlers. Residents from nearby areas joined the demonstration, raising slogans against the police administration.
Protesters alleged that despite repeatedly informing senior police officials about drug sales in the village, no action had been taken.
They claimed that five people, including two brothers, had died due to drug consumption, triggering grief and outrage in the community.
Villagers accused the police of shielding drug dealers instead of cracking down on them.
However, newly appointed SSP Shubham Agarwal said that one person had been arrested in connection with the case and assured that others involved would not be spared.
