Two Jalandhar girls get married, move High Court seeking protection from family

Jalandhar News: Two girls from Jalandhar approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking protection after their marriage at a gurdwara in Kharar (Mohali). The High Court, upon reviewing the petition, issued an order to the Jalandhar SSP to guarantee the safety and freedom of the couple.
When filing the petition, the couple explained to the High Court that they shared a deep affection for each other and had wed on October 18 at a gurudwara in Kharar. Their families disapproved of the marriage, and the couple faced threats to their lives. They had, out of fear, submitted a memorandum to the SSP of Jalandhar, but received no assistance. In light of this, the petitioners found refuge in the High Court.
Upon observing the case, the High Court has now instructed the Jalandhar SSP to review the petitioners’ request and make a suitable decision. It has also ordered the preservation of the couple’s lives and liberties. The court’s order makes it clear that it won’t obstruct any legal actions taken against the petitioners.
