Union Home Ministry abolishes post of UT Advisor in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: The Union Home Ministry has abolished the post of Advisor to the Union Territory (UT) Administrator in Chandigarh, replacing it with the post of Chief Secretary.
Under the new directive, the Chief Secretary will oversee all administrative affairs under the UT Administrator’s supervision.
Previously, the Advisor to the UT Administrator was a senior IAS officer appointed by the central government to manage Chandigarh’s affairs. Rajiv Verma currently holds the post of Advisor. However, with the new changes, the responsibilities will now shift to the Chief Secretary.
In the past, senior IAS officers from Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and other union territories served in this advisory role in Chandigarh. The decision marks a significant shift in the administrative structure of the capital shared by Punjab and Haryana.
