Union Minister Ravneet Bittu likens Punjab farmers to Taliban, calls them ‘looters’
Chandigarh: Punjab BJP leader and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has drawn controversy by comparing Punjab’s farmers to the Taliban, calling them “looters” and accusing farmer leaders of profiteering.
Bittu claimed that the BJP is being opposed not by ordinary farmers but by farmer leaders, alleging that they have become middlemen and fertilizer hoarders in the state.
His remarks come amid ongoing tensions between BJP leaders and farmers in Punjab, following the previous farmers’ agitation.
He intensified his criticism of Punjab’s farmer leaders, warning that their properties would face investigation following upcoming by-elections. Bittu said that only a select few “paid farmers” are opposing the BJP in Punjab, further alleging that some farmer leaders profit from protests.
This follows his controversial comments likening farmers to the Taliban, escalating tensions between the BJP and Punjab’s agricultural community amid ongoing political friction.
