Verka hikes milk prices by Rs 2 per litre in Punjab and Chandigarh from April 30
Chandigarh: In a setback for consumers, Verka, Punjab’s state-run milk cooperative, has announced a price hike of Rs 2 per litre on all milk variants across Punjab and Chandigarh, effective from April 30.
The price increase comes amid a reported shortage of milk in rural areas of north India due to the ongoing heatwave.
According to Shiv Kumar, a Verka vendor based in Mansa, the revised price of milk is now Rs 69 per litre and Rs 35 for a 500 ml packet. Standard milk will now cost Rs 63 per litre and Rs 32 for 500 ml. The price of 500 ml Double Toned Milk has been raised to Rs 26.
While Verka has implemented the price hike, other major brands such as Amul and Mother Dairy, which generally align their rates with Verka, have yet to announce any increase.
Industry sources suggest a price revision from these companies could follow in the coming days.
