Vigilance Bureau arrests Cooperative Inspector for accepting Rs 15,000 bribe
Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Wednesday apprehended Gurinder Singh, Inspector Cooperative department, posted Secretary at Bhura Kohna Multipurpose Cooperative Society for demanding and accepting bribe a bribe of Rs 15,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said, the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Varinder Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran district.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged in his complaint, that the said accused had demanded Rs 1.5 lakhs for restoring the said Cooperative Society which was dissolved due to allegations of misappropriation of government funds. The complainant further informed that the accused had demanded Rs 15,000 on the pretext of meeting Joint Registrar, Cooperative Society at Jalandhar in this regard.
The spokesperson further added that after a preliminary enquiry into this complaint the VB team laid a trap and the accused Inspector caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.
He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB Police Station, Amritsar Range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation was under progress, he said.
