Vigilance launches fresh probe against Capt Amarinder’s ex-adviser BIS Chahal

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has ordered an inquiry into the medical certificates being produced by Bharatinder Singh Chahal, advisor to former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, for not being able to join the probe. Confirming this, a senior bureau official said the Vigilance Unit of Patiala has been asked to examine the medical certificates produced by Chahal.
The vigilance had summoned the former chief minister’s advisor to join the probe on May 8. On May 7, Chahal had written a letter to the VB, citing ill health, attaching copies of two medical certificates with it, seeking two weeks more time to join the probe.
According to the medical certificate issued by the Civil Hospital Panchkula on April 24, Chahal’s health is not good. Similarly, on April 29, a medical certificate issued by Amar Hospital Patiala advised to rest for three weeks. The Vigilance had initiated an inquiry against Chahal on November 24, 2022, in a case of disproportionate income. The advisor to the former chief minister has been summoned around 10 times so far to join the probe in the case.
Vigilance officials said that in view of the possibility of Bharatinder Singh Chahal avoiding his involvement in the investigation, an inquiry has been ordered into the medical certificates. Vigilance officials said that during this investigation, information about Chahal suffering from diseases will be collected by contacting the doctors and legal action will be taken if there is a possibility of suspicion of medical certificates.
