VIP culture: High Court issues notice to Punjab govt for installing red-blue beacons on government vehicles
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notices to the Punjab government and other respondents, ordering them to submit a response regarding the illegal use of red-blue beacons on pilot and escort vehicles of MPs, MLAs, Chairpersons of Boards and Corporations, and Mayors in Punjab.
Simranjit Singh of Jalandhar, in the petition, informed the High Court that the central government, considering red-blue beacons as a symbol of VIP culture, ceased their use for everyone in 2017, including the vehicles of the President and the Prime Minister.
The Punjab Government also adopted the 2017 notification from the Central Government, prohibiting their use. Despite this, elected representatives and other VIPs continue to use red-blue beacons on their escort and pilot vehicles, displaying their influence.
