Chandigarh: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has appointed Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj as the acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, replacing Giani Raghbir Singh.
Additionally, Giani Kuldeep Singh has been named the Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, while Baba Tek Singh Dhanaula has been appointed as the Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.
Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, chosen by the SGPC Committee members, was selected for his deep knowledge of Sikhism. A resident of Jabowal village in Amritsar district, the 40-year-old holds an M.A. in history and has received religious education from the Sikh Missionary College.
Since 2001, he has been a Sikh kathavachak (preacher) and has interpreted the entire Sri Guru Granth Sahib. He has also studied Sikh historical texts, including Sri Guru Suraj Pratap Granth and Panth Prakash.
For the past three years, he has been performing Katha at Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall, Sri Darbar Sahib. His family is amritdhari, and he has been actively involved in supporting the education and welfare of underprivileged and orphaned children for 12 years.
Baba Tek Singh Dhanaula, the newly appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, hails from Dhanaula village in Barnala district.
He has been associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal for 12 years as an executive member and is currently a member of the Dharam Prachar Committee.
He has also served as a member of the SGPC and as president of the Sampradaya Mastuana Sahib.
