Woman SHO suspended for alleged bribery in Moga drug peddling case

Moga News: A woman Station House Officer (SHO) in Moga, Punjab, has been suspended and an FIR lodged against her for allegedly accepting a bribe to release drug peddling suspects.

The Munshis of two police stations involved in the incident have also been suspended. The case was registered after Moga DSP Ramandeep Singh filed an FIR against the officer.

SHO Arshpreet Kaur Grewal, posted at Kot Ise Khan police station, along with Munshi Gurpreet Singh and Munshi Rajpal Singh, allegedly apprehended three drug smugglers, including Amarjeet Singh, at a checkpoint on October 1.

During the search, 2 kg of opium was recovered. However, it is claimed that the officers accepted a Rs 5 lakh bribe and released the suspects, who remain at large.

Amarjeet Singh, a resident of Datewala Road, was involved in the drug smuggling operation along with his son Gurpreet Singh and brother Manpreet Singh, according to police interrogation.

SHO Arshpreet Kaur had previously gained recognition as a frontline worker during the COVID-19 pandemic, even receiving praise from former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
