Chandigarh: Amritsar police are delving into the background of Akash, the youth accused of desecrating Dr. Ambedkar’s statue on Heritage Street near Sri Darbar Sahib on Republic Day. The accused is reported to be from Dharamkot.
Jatinder Singh, in-charge of the local police station, visited Akash’s residence to interrogate his family. Meanwhile, the police intelligence wing has compiled a detailed report on the accused and forwarded it to the government.
According to sources, Akash hails from Chugha Basti but primarily lived with his maternal grandfather in Baghipura. After completing his Class XII education, Akash moved to Dubai for work and returned to India a few months ago, residing in a rented house in Amritsar.
