Punjab E News (Chandigarh):-  Sanjay Popli, a senior IAS officer of 2008 batch, has been arrested in a corruption case in Punjab on Monday late night. 

    A water supply and Sewerage board official has also been arrested along with Popli. 

     According to the vigilance department, Sanjay Popli, while in the sewerage board, had sought a 1 per cent commission in the 7.3 crore sewerage project in Congress government. The first instalment of the same was paid. However the recording demanding the second instalment was submitted to government through anti-corruption helpline number. 

     Following which Popli was arrested from Chandigarh late on Monday night. Popli was at this time pension director. Both will be produced before a Mohali court today. 

    A complaint in this regard was made by Karnal government contractor Sanjay Kumar. 


      Popli had demanded a bribe of 1% commission i.e. 7 lakhs. According to the contractor, on January 13, 2022, he received a call that Popli was asking for a bribe. Of which Rs 3.50 lakh was given in Chandigarh through the department's own superintending engineer (SE) Sanjeev Vats. According to the vigilance, Popli then started demanding dues of Rs 3.50 lakh. After which the contractor recorded his call.
