Two former DIGs booked under NDPS by Punjab Police

Punjab E News (Chandigarh):-  Retired DIGs of Punjab Prisons Department have been booked by Punjab Police following an inquiry conducted by Home department, media reports said.

Former DIG prison Lakhwinder Singh Jakhar and DIG Sukhdev Singh Saggu on the complaint of the Assistant Superintendent of The Jail Department.

A case has been registered by City Ferozepur police on charges of not taking any action on the drugs seized from 241 prisoners lodged in Ferozepur jail and getting these prisoners released using their official power.

The two officials are alleged to have disposed of the drug cases recovered from these jails at their own level and did not inform the higher authorities. It may be recalled that the Punjab Bureau of Investigation had investigated the matter. The FIR states that 241 cases of drugs in the jail and recovery of mobile phones have not been reported to the higher authorities.

Jakhar and Saggu reported only one case. These cases date back to 2005-11 when both of them were posted as superintendent of Ferozepur jail. DGP V.K. Bhawra had on April 6 ordered the registration of an FIR against the two. But booked cops alleged that a proper investigation was not conducted and police did not record their version before registering case against them, media reports.
