Punjab Chief Secretary conducts surprise inspection at government hospital to check stocks of medicines

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has initiated the provision of free medicines, X-ray, and ultrasound services in government hospitals for the convenience of the public.

To ensure it, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma visited Mohali on Friday to oversee this initiative, conducting a surprise inspection at the District Civil Hospital of Mohali.

Personally inspecting the medication inventory, he also engaged with patients, attentively addressing their concerns.

Expressing the commitment to ensuring a seamless experience for the public, the Chief Secretary stated that every effort is being made to fulfill the health aspirations of Punjab’s citizens, as envisioned by the Chief Minister.

Speaking to the media, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma highlighted that the state government oversees 23 district governments, 41 sub-divisional units, and 162 Community Health Centers (CHS).

As part of the government’s decision, essential medicines will be provided free of charge to those seeking medical attention.

This commitment aims to benefit the public, aligning with the purpose of the Chief Secretary’s visit to assess the implementation of this initiative.

Accompanied by the Health Secretary during the visit, it was emphasized that the Health Department has compiled a list of approximately three hundred and fifty essential medicines.

These medicines, which cover up to 90 percent of patient needs in hospitals, have been subject to renewed contracts, ensuring a consistent and reliable supply.

Consequently, the availability of medicines is assured, addressing concerns about potential shortages during this critical healthcare initiative.
