After criticism over his ‘election stunt’ remark, Channi questions BJP on Pulwama terror strike probe, Jakhar reacts

Chandigarh: A day after facing opprobrium for his remarks on the Poonch militant attack, in which an IAF corporal was killed and four personnel were injured, former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi clarified that he is proud of country’s soldiers and questioned the BJP government’s efforts to probe the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, in which 40 soldiers were martyred.

He also questioned the stand of Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar stating that Jakhar had blamed the PM Narendra Modi over this issue when he was in Congress fold.

Reacting to this, Sunil Jakhar has clarified the situation regarding the statement given by former CM Charanjit Singh Channi at the time of the Pulwama attack.

“I did not talk about any conspiracy or stunt at that time. I said that in this kind of atmosphere where families were waiting. In such a situation, the bodies of the martyrs should have come to the family. BJP leaders could have come here and paid tributes.”

“It is not Channi or Warring who are making such absurd statements. For Sunil, the nation is supreme. Channi is engaged in breaking the shackles of the Congress by making such statements.”

During this, he has also submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission, complaining that BJP leaders are being deterred to campaign in the state.
