After two years, Captain Amarinder re-activated; criticizes Punjab government over paddy procurement issues
Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh made a rare public appearance on Friday at Asia’s largest Khanna grain market, breaking his silence since joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after leaving Congress.
Singh visited the market to inspect paddy procurement and discuss ongoing issues with farmers and industry representatives.
During his visit, Singh inspected paddy fields in the mandis and spoke with farmers, arhtiyas, sheller owners, and trade unions.
He criticized the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, claiming that inadequate procurement and lifting arrangements were causing significant difficulties for farmers.
Singh accused the state government of failing to fulfill its promises of smooth procurement processes, labeling Mann’s assurances as misleading.
Caption Amarinder Singh pointed out that while the central government released Rs 44,000 crore for paddy purchases, Punjab’s administration has allegedly delayed payments to farmers.
