New York court denies Trump’s bid to delay sentencing

Washington: New York’s Supreme Court has declined to halt Friday’s sentencing of US President-designate Donald Trump in a case involving alleged hush money payments.

In a brief order, a New York appeals court judge rejected a request by Trump’s legal team for a hearing to postpone the sentencing.

Trump had sought the intervention of the Supreme Court after a New York court, led by Judge Juan M. Marchen, refused to stay the proceedings.

The decision marks another setback for Trump, who is set to be inaugurated as president on January 20.
