Court rejects bail plea of sacked DSP Gursher Singh in corruption case
Chandigarh: Troubles have mounted for dismissed DSP Gursher Singh in the corruption case linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s police custody interview.
The Mohali district court has rejected his bail application, forcing him to now seek relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to avoid imprisonment.
Punjab Police presented senior officials and case investigation records before the court during the hearing.
Arguments presented in the petition
Gursher Singh Sidhu put forth two main arguments in his plea. First, he contended that the FIR registered against him by the State Crime Police Station in Mohali was baseless.
He claimed that a complaint filed by Baljinder Singh, alias Tahla, had already been dismissed as false by then-Mohali SSP Sandeep Garg. However, the FIR was filed based on an investigation led by Ropar SP, a junior to SSP Garg.
Second, Gursher alleged he was being scapegoated in the controversy surrounding gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s interview conducted during police custody.
With the court rejecting his arguments, Gursher Singh now faces a tougher legal battle ahead.
