Supreme Court seeks AIIMS opinion on farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal’s health
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sought the opinion of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on the health condition of farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for 51 days.
During Wednesday’s hearing, the court directed the Punjab government to submit all medical examination reports of Dallewal.
Earlier, the Punjab government informed the court that Dallewal’s condition was stable, contradicting its previous statement that his health had improved.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Punjab government, told the bench of Justices Surya Kant and N.K. Singh that medical teams are closely monitoring the situation and had obtained Dallewal’s permission for a blood test.
Justice Surya Kant noted concerns about external pressure on Dallewal, suggesting it could influence the portrayal of his health condition. Sibal clarified that Dallewal’s health was stable, citing an affidavit from the Punjab Chief Secretary.
The Supreme Court has directed the state government to submit a comparative report on Dallewal’s health condition ahead of the next hearing scheduled for January 22.
Meanwhile, Dallewal is reportedly struggling to retain water, as he vomits immediately after drinking. A team of government doctors from Patiala examined him on Tuesday.
