AAP accuses BJP of removing Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh portraits; uproar in Delhi, Punjab Assemblies
New Delhi: The Delhi and Punjab Assemblies witnessed a massive uproar on Tuesday after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that portraits of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh were removed from the Chief Minister’s Office following a change of guard in Delhi.
In the Delhi Assembly, AAP MLAs strongly opposed the move, with former Chief Minister Atishi accusing the BJP of disrespecting Ambedkar. Several AAP MLAs, including Atishi, were suspended from the House. “The BJP has shown its true colors by removing Babasaheb Ambedkar’s portrait. Do they believe Narendra Modi can replace him?” she said.
The controversy also reached the Punjab Assembly, where AAP MLAs demanded a resolution against the removal. Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa supported their demand.
The BJP has dismissed AAP’s allegations as baseless, while AAP has termed it an insult to Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh. The issue has further escalated political tensions in both states.
