Zelensky welcomed in UK, secures $2.84 billion defence loan

London: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky received a warm welcome in the UK after what he described as a disappointing meeting with US President Donald Trump. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted Zelensky at Downing Street, reaffirming the UK’s support for Ukraine.

During the visit, the two countries signed a $2.84 billion loan agreement aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities. Zelensky stated that the funds would be used to manufacture weapons, while Britain described the deal as a testament to its “unwavering and continued support for the people of Ukraine.”

“You are very welcome in Downing Street,” Starmer told Zelensky, adding that cheers from the crowd outside reflected the UK’s full support for Ukraine. “We stand with you for as long as it takes.”

Zelensky expressed gratitude for the UK’s backing, acknowledging the public’s support. He also confirmed that he would meet King Charles III on Sunday, calling the UK a “strategic partner” and expressing confidence in its continued assistance.
