Majithia ‘stabbed’ Sukhbir Badal in the back: Bhunder

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) acting president Balwinder Singh Bhunder has strongly opposed senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s stance against the removal of jathedars by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) internal committee.

Bhunder said Majithia’s statement, along with those of other leaders, had deeply hurt senior party figures like him.

In a written statement, Bhunder accused Majithia of making a mistake by questioning the SGPC’s decision, emphasizing that his great-grandfather, Sunder Singh Majithia, was the committee’s first president.

“The SGPC’s internal committee made this decision after extensive deliberation,” he said, adding that Majithia was well aware of the factors responsible for the turmoil in Sikh politics and the SAD.

Bhunder further remarked that Majithia, who was raised by Harsimrat Kaur Badal and given prominence within the Badal family, had received unwavering support from Sukhbir Singh Badal during difficult times. “Yet today, instead of standing with the Akali Dal and Sukhbir Singh Badal, he has betrayed them,” he said.

Referring to the situation within the SAD after the passing of former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, Bhunder asserted that it was Majithia’s duty to stand by Sukhbir Singh Badal to uphold his legacy.

Calling Majithia’s move misguided, Bhunder urged him to “stop being part of a conspiracy by opponents and instead fight these conspiracies together.”
