Punjab Kings defends lowest total in IPL history
Chandigarh: Yuzvendra Chahal’s superb bowling performance helped Punjab Kings secure a 16-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in a low-scoring thriller at the Maharaja Yadvindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, on Monday.
In the 31st match of the 2025 IPL season, Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bat first but struggled to build momentum. The team was bowled out for just 111 runs in 15.3 overs. Only Priyans Arya (22) and Prabhsimran Singh (30) managed to score above 20, while the rest of the batting lineup faltered under pressure.
Kolkata Knight Riders, in reply, also collapsed, getting bowled out for 95 in 15.1 overs. Chahal’s tight spell and key breakthroughs proved decisive in defending the modest total.
Despite being on the losing side, Kolkata’s Ramandeep Singh—who hails from Mohali—made a notable impact by taking three sharp catches and dismissing three key Punjab batsmen.
With this victory, Punjab Kings kept their hopes alive in the tournament, thanks to their disciplined bowling display.
