PM Modi speaks to Amit Shah after Pahalgam attack, asks for swift action

Pahalgam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah following the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and directed him to take all appropriate steps to handle the situation, official sources said. Modi has also asked Shah to visit the Union Territory to assess the ground situation.

The attack occurred in the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday evening. Police said several people were feared dead and at least 20 others were injured when militants targeted tourists in the area.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the number of casualties is still being verified. “This attack is far bigger than any attack on civilians in recent years,” Abdullah posted on X.

Security agencies have launched an extensive search operation in the area, and additional forces have been deployed to prevent further incidents.
