Protest outside Pakistan High Commission over Pahalgam terror attack
New Delhi: More than 500 people gathered near the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi on Wednesday to protest against the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
Holding placards and shouting slogans against Pakistan, the protesters accused the neighbouring country of supporting terrorism and demanded strong retaliatory action.
Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and social organisations such as the Anti-Terrorism Action Forum joined the demonstration. The Delhi Police had set up barricades approximately 500 metres from the High Commission to prevent the protesters from marching further.
“Earlier, the government had carried out a surgical strike. We again demand such action to end terrorism. It was a shameful attack on innocent tourists,” a member of the Anti-Terrorism Action Forum told PTI videos.
Protesters also urged the government to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims travelling to Jammu and Kashmir for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
At one point during the protest, some demonstrators attempted to climb over the barricades to march towards the High Commission but were stopped by police.
