Seven killed as temple wall collapses in Simhachalam due to heavy rain

Simhachalam: Seven people were killed and one injured after a wall collapsed at the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Simhachalam, Andhra Pradesh, around 3 am on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when a wall fell on devotees waiting in a queue for tickets to the shopping complex on Ghat Road from the Simhagiri bus stand.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the tragedy. Both the central and state governments have announced compensation for the families of those killed.

State Home Minister V Anita, who was present at the site, said that preliminary reports indicate the wall collapse was caused by soil weakening due to heavy rainfall in the area.
