Tension at Nangal as Punjab ministers oppose BBMB’s water release to Haryana

Chandigarh: Tension escalated in Nangal on Wednesday when the chairman of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) arrived at the Nangal Dam to facilitate the release of water to Haryana.

The situation turned confrontational after Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, upon learning of the development, reached the BBMB Guest House with his colleagues, surrounded the chairman, and raised slogans against the BBMB and the BJP-led central government.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann also rushed to Nangal in response to the incident. Addressing the media, he firmly declared that Punjab would not allow water to be diverted to Haryana under any circumstances. “Not just the Punjab government, but the entire Punjab stands united on this issue,” Mann said.

He was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains and leaders from various political parties, signalling a united front against the BBMB’s move.
