India’s new flight into space, SSLV-D2 successfully launched

New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation has launched the second edition of small satellite launch vehicle SSLV D-2 from the first launch pad of Satish Dhawan Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. ISRO launched it at exactly 9.18 pm. The SSLV D-2 will attempt to place the three satellites in a 450-km circular orbit during 15 minutes of its flight, ISRO said. These include ISRO’s EOS-07, US’s Janus-1 and Chennai-based startup SpaceKidz’s AzaadiSAT-2.

Can launch up to 500 kg into low Earth orbits, is low-cost
The SSLV D-2 has a length of 34 meters, a diameter of 2 meters, a launch vehicle weighing 120 tons
The rocket also has 3 solid propulsion stages, velocity terminal modules
The first test flight of SSLV took place on August 9 last year, partially failed.
