Chandigarh: A day after the protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar concluded, Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) state president Joginder Singh Ugrahan claimed that the Centre’s decision to seek the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was the result of pressure created by farmers who had announced plans to join the agitation in Delhi.
In a video message, Ugrahan credited the protesters for what he described as a major victory and appealed to farmers across Punjab to celebrate the development in line with the programme announced by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM).
He urged farmers to organise victory celebrations at district headquarters across Punjab on July 27.
Ugrahan said the union had completed preparations for the proposed Delhi march on July 27, including arranging transport and collecting essential supplies for participating farmers.
He added that the organisation had been fully prepared to join the protest at Jantar Mantar before the developments that led to the conclusion of the agitation.
A day earlier, during a meeting in Bathinda, Ugrahan and other farmer leaders had formally announced the July 27 march to Delhi in support of the ongoing movement.
