Chandigarh: A suspected petrol bomb was hurled at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district office in Sangrur in the early hours of Monday, prompting a police investigation into the incident.
According to police, the attack took place at around 2 am when the office was unoccupied. The incident came to light on Sunday morning after a party worker opened the office and noticed signs of damage.
Speaking to the media, Sangrur SP (D) Davinder Atri said police received information about the incident in the morning and immediately reached the spot to begin an investigation.
He said the assailants allegedly filled a beer bottle with petrol and threw it at the outer wall of the office. Burn marks were found at the scene, indicating an attempt to set the building on fire.
Atri said multiple police teams had been formed to investigate the case. An FIR is being registered, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible.
BJP leader Randeep Singh Deol alleged that the attackers tried to set the district office ablaze, claiming smoke marks were visible on the building. Condemning the incident, he accused the Punjab government of failing to maintain law and order.
Deol further alleged that the attack was part of a pattern, referring to previous incidents involving the BJP office in Chandigarh and attacks on police stations, and called for strict action against those responsible.
