Chandigarh: A property dispute turned violent in Chandigarh’s upscale Sector 42 on Saturday after a woman was allegedly shot by a lawyer during an operation to execute a court-ordered property possession.
The injured woman has been identified as Rajinder Kaur Koda. She sustained serious injuries after being hit by a bullet and was rushed to PGIMER, Chandigarh, where she is undergoing treatment. Her condition is stated to be critical.
According to preliminary information, Rajinder Kaur had reached the Sector 42 residence to take possession of the property in compliance with a court order. During the proceedings, an argument reportedly broke out between her and a lawyer present at the spot.
Police said the dispute escalated, following which the lawyer allegedly opened fire using his licensed firearm, seriously injuring the woman.
On receiving information about the incident, police teams rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Officials are collecting evidence and recording statements to ascertain the circumstances leading to the firing.
Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, police said.
