Ferozepur Central Jail assistant superintendent arrested in mobile smuggling case

Ferozepur: Ferozepur Central Jail has once again come under scrutiny after police arrested Assistant Superintendent Binny Tang in connection with an alleged racket involving the illegal supply of mobile phones to inmates lodged inside the prison.

The arrest has sent shockwaves through the jail administration and the police department. According to the police, a well-organised network was allegedly operating inside the jail, facilitating the delivery of mobile phones and other prohibited items to undertrial prisoners and convicts in exchange for money.

The investigation began on July 29, when police registered a case against jail warden Rahul. During questioning and further investigation, officials reportedly uncovered evidence indicating the possible involvement of senior jail officials.

Based on the findings, police named and arrested Assistant Superintendent Binny Tang. Preliminary investigations suggest that substantial amounts of money were allegedly collected to smuggle mobile phones into the prison.

SP (Detective) Manjeet Singh said the accused would be produced before a court to seek police remand for further questioning. He added that the investigation is being supervised by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-rank officer.

Police are now probing the extent of the alleged network, including the amount of money exchanged, the involvement of other jail employees or outsiders, and the number of inmates who may have benefited from the illegal operation.

Officials said the investigation is being carried out from all angles, and strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved. Police believe the remand proceedings may reveal the involvement of more officials linked to the alleged racket.
