Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepke on Wednesday said the organisation will not transform into a political party for now and will instead continue functioning as a pressure group.
Speaking to the media ahead of the CJP’s two-day meeting in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Deepke said India currently needs a strong people’s movement rather than another political party.
“If we had formed a political party, our movement would not have succeeded. It succeeded because people from different ideologies and political parties came together against actions that weaken democracy. India does not need a new political party at this stage, but a strong public movement,” he said.
Deepke said the meeting would review the Jantar Mantar protest and discuss issues including E20 petrol and the education system. The organisation will also chalk out a strategy to strengthen its presence across the country.
He claimed the movement received support not only over education-related issues but also because many people had lost confidence in institutions such as the political system, judiciary, media and the Election Commission.
“The present political system is in a poor state. A broad-based public movement and sustained public pressure are needed to restore people’s faith in democratic institutions,” he said.
Deepke also announced that CJP would travel to Jharkhand to support students who are staging protests there.
“We will stand with the students of Jharkhand and support all their demands,” he added.
