Sukhbir Singh Badal meets PM Modi in Delhi, sparks fresh buzz over BJP-SAD alliance

New Delhi: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Parliament House in New Delhi on Friday, triggering fresh political speculation in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Badal arrived in Delhi earlier in the day before holding the meeting with the Prime Minister. While the agenda of the discussion has not been made public, the meeting has fuelled talk of a possible revival of the BJP-SAD alliance.

With the Punjab Assembly elections now only a few months away, the meeting is being viewed as politically significant. The BJP has repeatedly maintained in recent months that it is preparing to contest the elections independently.

Reacting to the development, Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal took a swipe at the two parties in a post on X, writing, “Na na karte pyaar tumhi se kar baithe… Toh kya Chanda Chor Party aur Beadbi Party ka gathbandhan ho raha hai?”

The BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal were long-time allies before their alliance collapsed over the now-repealed farm laws. Thursday’s meeting has once again intensified speculation over whether the two parties could reunite ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
