Punjab kabaddi star Gurjit Toot dies at home in Ferozepur

Ferozepur: Renowned Punjab-style kabaddi player Gurjit Toot has died at his home in Toot village of Ferozepur district. He breathed his last on Tuesday evening.

According to his family, Gurjit had been suffering from a kidney-related infection and had been staying at home since August 9.

Gurjit was known as a raider in Punjab-style (circle) kabaddi and was regarded as one of the prominent players of his generation.

Kabaddi commentators and sports writers said his career was at its peak around 2007. His strong performances, tall stature and broad physique earned him the nickname “Burj Khalifa of kabaddi.”

His death has left the Punjab kabaddi community mourning the loss of one of the sport’s recognised names.
