Ludhiana: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) senior leader and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal said on Saturday that the attack on party president Sukhbir Singh Badal would not silence the Akali Dal’s voice.
Addressing a large gathering at a state-level Shaheedi Samagam in Isru, Ludhiana, held in memory of martyr Karnail Singh, Harsimrat described the situation as a struggle to protect Punjab and the Sikh community.
She said such attacks could not weaken Sukhbir Badal or Akali workers and expressed confidence that he would return stronger after recovering from the attack.
‘Sukhbir is ready to face such attacks’
Harsimrat said she had complete faith in the Guru and that Sukhbir had asked her to attend the Isru event even while he was in hospital, which she described as a reflection of his commitment to Punjab and the party.
Senior SAD leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal also addressed the gathering and said Akali leaders had historically been targeted, naming Gurcharan Singh Tohra, Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, Jathedar Kirpal Singh and Sukhbir Badal.
He alleged that those seeking to disturb Punjab’s peace had repeatedly failed in their attempts.
The annual state-level programme at Isru is held around Independence Day and is attended by leaders from major political parties in Punjab.
