New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused the Delhi Police of using alleged brutality against protesters, including students and women, to suppress dissent and discourage people from questioning those in power.
In a Hindi post on social media platform X, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said the alleged treatment of demonstrators had crossed all limits of decency.
“Sexual harassment, pulling clothes and attacks on private parts — the Delhi Police’s brutality against students and women raising their voices for democracy has crossed all limits of shame,” Gandhi wrote.
He alleged that such actions were part of an attempt to intimidate and humiliate protesters so severely that they would hesitate to raise questions in the future.
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gandhi claimed that their fear of losing power was being reflected in the alleged violence against young people and women.
The Congress leader also shared a 10-minute video featuring conversations with several young women protesters who alleged that police personnel had mistreated them during recent demonstrations.
The allegations were made by Gandhi and the women featured in the video. Their claims were not independently verified in the account provided.
