Shehzad Poonawalla sends resignation to BJP chief again, seeks immediate acceptance

New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has resigned from the party for the second time, urging national president Nitin Nabin to accept his resignation immediately.

Poonawalla has stepped down from all organisational positions as well as the BJP’s primary membership. He thanked the party for giving him the opportunity to represent it.

Poonawalla, who belongs to the Pasmanda Muslim community, said he had submitted his first resignation on July 30, but was subsequently asked to reconsider his decision. He said he has now decided to move on.

In his resignation letter, Poonawalla said his decision had been strengthened by the conduct of certain individuals, whose behaviour he claimed he had already detailed to the party leadership.

Recalling his political journey, Poonawalla said he believed it would have been difficult for a young Pasmanda Muslim from a non-political family to reach such a position in any other party. He clarified that he was leaving the BJP due to personal and financial reasons and would soon move to the private sector.
