Bathinda: A disturbing video showing a young man being brutally assaulted with an iron rod in Tungwali village under Talwandi Sabo subdivision of Bathinda district has gone viral on social media.
In the video, the victim is seen lying on the ground in a vulnerable condition while several people appear to hold him down. Another youth is seen repeatedly striking him with an iron rod.
Talwandi Sabo DSP Jasjot Singh said the incident took place on Monday and that the video surfaced on social media later. The victim, identified as Satvir, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The DSP said police are recording the victim’s statement and taking legal action. Preliminary investigation suggests that the two sides had an old family dispute.
Meanwhile, senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia shared the video on Facebook and criticised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Punjab Police over the incident.
Majithia claimed that the assault left the victim with fractures in both legs, alleging that the incident reflects the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the state.
