India beat Pakistan 5-3 to enter Hockey World Cup top eight

Netherlands: India produced a strong attacking display to beat Pakistan 5-3 at the Wagner Hockey Stadium, securing its second victory of the tournament.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh and forward Abhishek scored two goals each, while vice-captain Hardik Singh added one goal for India.

Harmanpreet opened the scoring from a penalty corner in the 5th minute before converting another penalty corner in the 21st minute. Abhishek then struck twice from field play in the 11th and 24th minutes.

Hardik Singh completed India’s fifth goal in the 35th minute, converting a penalty stroke after a stick foul by Pakistan’s Arshad.

Pakistan attempted a comeback through Hannan Shahid, who scored in the 22nd and 46th minutes, while Sufyan Khan added another in the 24th minute. However, India maintained its lead to secure the win.

India finish second in Pool D

The victory took India to six points from three matches, leaving the team second in Pool D and through to the top eight.

Pakistan finished third with one point and were eliminated from the tournament.
