Islamabad: Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with the United States after US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor described Jammu and Kashmir as an “important part of India” during his visit to Srinagar.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned the US chargé d’affaires in Islamabad on Wednesday and conveyed its objection to Gor’s remarks as well as his visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Gor made the comments during a joint press conference with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar. He also described the region as a “very beautiful place”.
US may review travel advisory
Gor, who was on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, also indicated that Washington could review its travel advisory for the region.
He said the US regularly reviews its travel warnings and that officials would consider whether the advisory level for the region should be reduced.
The ambassador also praised the steps taken by the central government, the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the chief minister towards improving security in the region.
