Chandigarh: Congress MP from Rohtak, Deepender Singh Hooda, has clarified his remarks about former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar following criticism over an alleged reference to Kumar as a “role model”.
In a statement shared on social media, Hooda said he had never described Sajjan Kumar as a role model and alleged that words were being attributed to him that he had not used.
Hooda said he had always stood with the Sikh community and described the relationship between his family and the community as one of brotherhood.
‘Those responsible for 1984 riots must be punished’
Hooda said the 1984 anti-Sikh riots were a grave injustice and that anyone found responsible should face strict punishment under the law.
He also referred to his family’s association with historical struggles and said his family had supported farmers during their protests, including when hundreds of farmers died.
Clarifying his position, Hooda said there was no question of providing protection to anyone accused in connection with the 1984 violence.
He reiterated that those responsible for the riots should be punished according to law and that justice must be ensured.
