SGPC YouTube broadcast row: GTC alleges deliberate blackouts, seeks explanation

Amritsar: A fresh controversy has erupted over the live broadcast of Gurbani Kirtan from Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, with the GTC Network alleging deliberate interruptions in the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) official YouTube stream.

GTC Network Managing Director Rabinder Narayan has alleged that the SGPC’s YouTube broadcast has repeatedly shown black screens and gone silent, while the same broadcast on the PTC Network has continued without interruption.

In a letter to the SGPC, Narayan claimed that the disruptions have been occurring since August 15. He said recordings from different dates were available as evidence and that viewers around the world had noticed the interruptions.

According to the complaint, viewers watching Gurbani on YouTube have repeatedly faced periods when the screen turns black and the audio disappears.

GTC seeks technical audit

Narayan questioned the possibility of the issue being a routine technical fault, arguing that if the problem originated from the common broadcast source, it should have affected all feeds. He pointed out that no similar disruption was seen on PTC’s broadcast.

GTC has sought a written explanation from the SGPC within seven days. It has also called for an independent technical audit of the entire broadcasting system and urged the SGPC to preserve relevant server logs.

The allegations are yet to be independently established, and the SGPC’s response to the claims will be significant in determining the cause of the reported interruptions.
