ttShamli: Two alleged shooters, Sumit and Mohit, wanted in connection with the murder of Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan, were killed in an encounter with Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday morning, police said.
Shamli SP Narendra Pratap Singh said the two suspects were fleeing towards Sonipat in Haryana on a motorcycle when police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted them.
According to police, the suspects opened fire to avoid arrest, prompting retaliatory firing. Around 20 rounds were exchanged between the two sides. Sumit, 24, and Mohit, 22, sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to a district hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Both suspects were residents of Sonipat and carried a reward of ₹50,000 each. Police said Sumit had one other criminal case registered against him, while Mohit faced 15 cases.
The two were allegedly among four men involved in the killing of Baliyan. Their alleged accomplices Satyam and Aryan remain absconding.
How the killing happened
On August 26, 32-year-old Ankit Baliyan was leaving a gym in Shamli when armed attackers allegedly surrounded him and opened fire. Police said around 18 rounds were fired.
Baliyan was taken to hospital after the attack but was declared dead by doctors.
