CM Mann calls customs check ‘revenge’ over AAP’s demand for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation

Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday alleged that he was harassed by customs officials for nearly two hours at Delhi airport after returning from Paris, calling the incident an act of political retaliation.

Mann linked the alleged incident to the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) demand for the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He claimed the customs check was carried out in response to the party’s stand against the CEC.

The chief minister also referred to senior customs official Manish Kumar, whom he claimed was Gyanesh Kumar’s brother.

The controversy relates to Mann’s return from Paris earlier this week. According to reports, customs officials checked the luggage of Mann and his wife, Gurpreet Kaur, and a fine of ₹50,000 was subsequently imposed.

The allegations and the circumstances surrounding the customs check have not been independently established.
