Chandigarh: Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha’s name has reportedly been removed from the voter list in Punjab’s Kharar constituency and is now also missing from the electoral roll of Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar constituency following the Election Commission’s special revision of voter lists.
The draft electoral roll published for Kharar on August 13 listed Chadha as having “permanently shifted”, resulting in the deletion of his name from the constituency’s voter list.
His name is also absent from the Rajinder Nagar electoral roll published on August 31. According to a review by Punjabi Tribune, only two voters—Chadha’s father Sunil Chadha and mother Alka Chadha—are currently registered at house number 473 in New Rajinder Nagar, his family’s reported residence.
Name missing from Punjab and Delhi rolls
Chadha had previously been registered as a voter in Ward 44 of the Mohali Municipal Corporation, at polling booth 160, serial number 253. His residence is in Regency Heights, which falls under the ward.
According to his 2022 Rajya Sabha nomination affidavit, Chadha was registered as a voter in Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar Assembly constituency under serial number 313, Part 52. He became a Rajya Sabha member from Punjab in April 2022 after the Aam Aadmi Party announced his nomination.
Reports suggest that Chadha later shifted his voter registration from Delhi to Punjab. His name has now also been removed from Punjab’s electoral roll during the special revision, leaving him without a registered vote in either Punjab or his reported ancestral constituency in Delhi.
Chadha had cast his vote at a polling station in Lakhnour village, Mohali, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Election Commission published Punjab’s draft electoral rolls on August 13, with around 20.66 lakh names deleted, accounting for nearly 9.7% of the total electorate.
Chadha calls deletion ‘political vendetta’
The deletion has triggered a political dispute between Chadha and the Aam Aadmi Party. Chadha, who recently joined the BJP, has described the removal of his name from Punjab’s electoral roll as “political vendetta” and criticised the AAP government.
Senior AAP leaders, however, have questioned the relevance of the state government in the matter, pointing out that the voter-list revision is being carried out by the Election Commission of India.
