New Delhi: Following the building collapse in south Delhi’s Satya Niketan area, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest outside the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) office at Civic Centre, holding the civic body responsible for the incident and demanding the immediate resignation of the MCD commissioner.
Protesters raised slogans outside the office and allegedly vandalised parts of the premises in anger over the incident. Police and security personnel intervened and detained several protesters.
Meanwhile, several colleges affiliated with Delhi University’s South Campus have stepped in to support students who were left without accommodation following the building collapse. Colleges have made arrangements for food, drinking water and temporary shelter.
Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD) opened its campus to students needing immediate assistance. College authorities said its canteen had been opened and accommodation was arranged at a nearby community centre and gurdwara.
Jesus and Mary College (JMC) has also invited students who are unable to return to their accommodation to seek help on campus. Sri Venkateswara College, Maitreyi College and Motilal Nehru College (MLNC) have similarly urged students facing problems or safety concerns at their PGs or rented rooms to contact their respective colleges.
MLNC has made separate accommodation arrangements for male and female students. Various student organisations are also using social media to coordinate assistance for those in need.
The administration has advised students to carry their college identity cards, avoid unsafe routes and refrain from forwarding rumours or unverified videos related to the incident.
