Chandigarh court restrains Majithia, Khaira and Justice Ranjit Singh from posting alleged bribery-related content against Punjab CM’s wife

Chandigarh: A Chandigarh court has temporarily restrained retired Justice Ranjit Singh, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira from publishing, circulating or disseminating any allegedly baseless or defamatory material concerning claims that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s wife, Gurpreet Kaur, had demanded a bribe.

The interim restraint applies to social media platforms and other mediums until further orders from the court.

The order was passed by Chandigarh Civil Judge (Junior Division) Dr Parikshit on a suit filed by Gurpreet Kaur seeking damages and an injunction against the three respondents.

The court has issued notices to the defendants on the suit and the application for interim relief, with the matter listed for September 30, 2026.

Gurpreet Kaur’s counsel had sought an ex-parte interim injunction until the next hearing, arguing that a strong prima facie case had been established in her favour and that the balance of convenience also lay with her.

The counsel further submitted that failure to grant interim protection could cause irreparable injury and loss to the petitioner.
