Patna: Eight rivers, including the Ganga, are in spate in Bihar, where flood conditions continue across 14 districts, affecting around 35.89 lakh people.
The Kosi, Gandak and Ghaghra rivers are flowing above the danger mark. The situation has worsened in Saran after a zamindari embankment on the Mahi river breached, according to the report.
Schools shut in parts of Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh, rainfall has prompted authorities to close all schools up to Class 8 in Lakhimpur and Bareilly.
In Varanasi, schools from pre-primary to Class 5 will remain closed, while classes from 6 to 12 will operate from 9 am to 3 pm. A rain alert has been issued for 23 districts, including Varanasi and Prayagraj.
Landslides reported in Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand’s Pauri district, landslides have caused cracks to appear in houses and shops. A yellow alert has been issued for the hill districts amid the possibility of heavy rainfall.
Madhya Pradesh gets temporary monsoon break
Meanwhile, the monsoon has taken another three-day break in Madhya Pradesh. The Bhopal Meteorological Department has forecast no heavy rainfall anywhere in the state until September 11.
